Prof. Dai Lie Elected Vice Chairperson of the 12th Chinese Society of Rheumatology Committee

On August 22, 2025, Prof. Dai Lie, a Chief Physician who serves as the Director of the Department of Rheumatology and Immunology at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital (SYSMH), was elected Vice Chairperson of the 12th Committee of the Chinese Society of Rheumatology.

Prof. Dai is currently a Standing Committee Member of the Rheumatology Physician Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. She also serves as a deputy director on several national professional committees. In addition, she holds the position of Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the Chinese Edition of Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases (ARD) and is a member of the editorial boards of nine core journals, including Frontiers in MedicineNational Medical Journal of China, and Chinese Journal of Rheumatology.

Prof. Dai initiated the establishment of SYSMH's Rheumatology and Immunology Department in 2001. Under her leadership, the department has achieved a national ranking of third in South China and among the top 20 nationwide according to the Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) for Chinese Hospitals and Medical Schools. In clinical practice, she pioneered synovial biopsies by Parker-Pearson needle in China, established a standardized synovial pathology evaluation system, proposed a new immunopathological synovial classification for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and established the largest single-center prospective longitudinal RA cohort in southern China. Additionally, she introduced synovial fluid crystal identification from abroad and became the first in China to administer low-dose rasburicase for treating refractory chronic gouty arthritis.

In scientific research and academic leadership, Prof. Dai has obtained six general projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NNFSC) and more than 30 research projects of the Ministry of Education’s Doctoral Program Fund. She has published 308 academic papers (94 high-impact, including Cell, Nature Communications、Arthritis Rheumatology, and 214 domestic), led the formulation of eight national expert consensuses and guidelines, and participated in developing 54 such documents. Additionally, she holds six invention patents, contributed to six Chinese-English national planning textbooks (e.g. Internal Medicine, Clinical Immunology), and supervised 20 doctoral and 31 master’s students.
