The center for reproductive medicine of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital was established in 2001. It is now a National Key Clinical Department, a Key Medical Department of 12th “Five-year Plan” of Guangdong province, and a Key Clinical Department in Guangdong.
As its beginnings in the very early years, for the past 50 years, our center has pushed the boundaries of building up the reproductive endocrinological medical team and laboratory in China, as well as conducting research on the reproductive endocrinological diseases and infertility. In 1980s, our center performed the first hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery and fallopian tube implantation surgery. In the mid-1980s, our center also performed the first case of intrauterine insemination with fresh or frozen sperms in our country.
With 85 leading staff, including doctors, nurses, and technicians, all of whom have a well established reputation in the field. 13 are advanced professionals and more than 70% doctors have doctoral degree. The staff are serving over 90 positions in the academic organizations of reproductive endocrinology, including 6 associate chairmen in national academies, 2 associate editors of national journals, 4 chairmen and 15 associate chairmen in provincial academies.
The routine assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) we have performed are artificial insemination with husband’s sperm (AIH), in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET), intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), and preimplantation genetic test (PGT). The annual outpatient volume is approximately 100,000 times, and IVF/ICSI is conducted around 4000 cycles per year. Our clinical pregnancy rate of fresh cycle has reached the advanced level in China. We have provided high-quality medical service to patients at home and abroad.
