Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine

The Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine of SYSMH was founded in 1985. Through the dedicated efforts of successive generations of respiratory specialists, it has developed into a pediatric respiratory department with considerable renown in South China, integrating clinical practice, scientific research, and education. The department was among the early institutions in China to conduct clinical and basic research on childhood asthma, accumulating substantial clinical experience and achieving significant research outcomes. It conducts in-depth studies on acute and chronic respiratory infections, chronic cough, asthmatic bronchitis, refractory pneumonia, pediatric rhinosinusitis, and pediatric immune-related disorders. The department currently has 6 professional technical staff, including 1 with a senior professional title, 2 with associate senior titles, and 3 with junior-level titles.

Featured Medical Technology

Currently, The Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine has introduced pediatric pulmonary function testing, fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) measurement, screening and detection of respiratory pathogens, and testing for common respiratory allergens and blood inflammatory factors. It is progressively implementing various procedures such as bronchoscopic bronchoalveolar lavage, airway foreign body removal, tracheal mucosa and cilia biopsy, and obtaining deep sputum samples in children, providing robust support for the precise treatment of pediatric respiratory diseases.
In terms of treatment, the Division of Pediatric Respiratory Medicine has established an asthma nebulization therapy center. It was designated as one of Guangdong Province's first batch of standardized pediatric asthma clinics in 2018. Utilizing a dedicated respiratory management app, it has created a pediatric asthma management platform, achieving intelligent management and services. The department has accumulated extensive experience in the management, education, and monitoring of childhood asthma.
