Department of Breast Medical Oncology

The Department of Breast Medical Oncology is the first formally established unit of its kind in Guangdong Province. In 2014, it obtained accreditation as a National Drug Clinical Trial Institution. In 2018, it successfully established a "Vomiting-Free Ward," founded a Bone Marrow Suppression Safety Management Training Base, and was recognized as a Guangdong Provincial Demonstration Ward for Standardized Cancer Pain Management. The department serves as the chair unit for both the Tumor Metastasis Professional Committee of the Guangdong Anti-Cancer Association and the Breast Medical Oncology Management Branch of the Guangdong Medical Industry Association. It is also a designated site for doctoral programs in Oncology at Sun Yat-sen University.
The department is led by Director Professor Yao Herui, the founder of Breast Medical Oncology, who also holds the positions of Assistant President of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital, Director of the Phase I Clinical Research Center, Deputy Director of the Breast Tumor Center, and Deputy Director of the Oncology Department. Professor Wang Ying serves as the Head of the Department and Secretary of the Party Branch of the Yixian Breast Tumor Hospital. The department has specially appointed renowned national breast oncology expert Professor Jiang Zefei as a "Yixian Medical Guest Professor," and Professors Liu Donggeng and Zhou Yongchang as "Yixian Medical Clinical Professors."

Featured Medical Technology

Currently, the department has a total of 30 beds, comprising 21 inpatient ward beds and 9 day-chemotherapy beds. Adhering to the principles of standardization and personalization, it employs comprehensive treatment modalities including chemotherapy, endocrine therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, striving to improve both the survival outcomes and quality of life for breast cancer patients.

Scientific Research Results

The Department of Breast Medical Oncology is dedicated to both basic and clinical research on breast cancer metastasis. It has undertaken one National Science and Technology Major Project, 12 National Natural Science Foundation projects (including one key program), and one Ph.D. Programs Foundation of the Ministry of Education. The department has conducted 26 Phase II and III clinical research projects, of which 9 are investigator-initiated. It has secured 2 Sun Yat-sen University "5010" project grants, 4 Yixian Cultivation Project grants, 1 Wu Jieping Medical Foundation grant, and 2 CSCO Foundation grants. Additionally, leveraging the Phase I Clinical Research Center, the department has carried out a total of 10 Phase I new drug clinical trials.
