Artificial Intelligence Laboratory

The Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Sun Yat-sen Memorial hospital, Sun Yat-sen University is committed to new artificial intelligence (AI) technology and transformation based on medical big data in the era of precision medicine. In recent years, the hospital has made outstanding research on AI and has published many high-level papers. Including "Clinical Cancer Research", "Ebiomedicine", "JAMA Network Open", etc. In 2020, the CT diagnosis platform of COVID-19 developed by the team of Professor Lin Tianxin has achieved milestone progress. It was recommended by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology to the United Nations and promoted globally. It has been downloaded nearly 3 million times and related results have been published in the top journal Cell.

Presently, the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory has established an internal R&D team, and cooperated with external teams to provide technical support for the AI-related topics in hospital, including algorithm and computing power, intellectual property rights, patents, and other legal consultations. In addition, the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory will promote artificial intelligence research and the incubation of results in all departments of our hospital. The research mainly focus on AI-assisted follow-up system, construction of precision medical artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence decision-making systems that meet clinical research standards, medical wearable technology and innovative equipment, medical technology algorithms and tools research and development, etc.

Biomedical big-data center:

With the development of modern biology and medical technology, biomedical big data is rapidly expanding geometrically. Medical systems have accumulated massive amounts of data, such as electronic medical records, pathological pictures, electrocardiographic signals, CT/MRI Image data, etc. Biomedical big data has become an important national strategic resource and an important foundation for clinical scientific research. Research and clinical practice have shown that in-depth mining of biomedical big data is extremely important for accurate disease diagnosis and design of therapeutic plan. The biomedical big data center plays key roles in supporting clinical research in the hospital. Main tasks of the center include: effectively integrating high-quality biological omics and clinical data of hospital and public database, building a data storage, building retrieval and calculation analysis platform of the whole hospital, providing services for big data analysis and mining in different clinical departments, and fully supporting the needs of clinical scientific research in hospitals. At present, the big data center has integrated PB-level data resources and built 10 computing servers.
