In the opening remarks, Professor Song Erwei extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to all the leaders and distinguished guests. He pointed out that as a century-old institution with over 190 years of history, SYSMH has long been constrained by a lack of space. The official opening of the Huadu Campus represents not only a spatial expansion but also a pivotal step in the hospital's development, enabling more people to access high-quality medical care. “Now, standing at this new starting point on its first anniversary, the hospital will actively align itself with the broader regional development strategy, striving to establish the Huadu Campus as a northern Guangzhou medical hub for severe diseases and continuously contributing 'Yixian strength' to regional healthcare and public health,” Professor Song stated.

Following this, representing the Huadu District Committee and District Government, Luo Ganzheng expressed high respect for the dedication and efforts of all medical workers over the past year. He expressed hope that the campus will further enhance the quality of medical care and service capabilities, truly exemplifying the “golden brand” of Sun Yat-sen University's medical discipline and building its distinctive identity as “a world-class high-level hospital in close proximity to the community.” He added, “in the future, the Huadu District Committee and District Government will continue to support the campus’s development and deepen cooperation with the hospital. Together, we will jointly advance Huadu’s health initiatives and inject stronger momentum into the high-quality growth of the healthcare sector in the northern part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.”

Professor Liu Chao presented a report on the first-year achievements of Huadu Campus. He concluded that throughout the year, the campus had steadily enhanced its infrastructure, expanded its medical workforce, and maintained a stable system for outpatient and inpatient care. Both patient visits and admissions have shown consistent growth with healthcare coverage broadening steadily. A number of pioneering technologies and programs have been introduced, achieving several “firsts” in Huadu and northern Guangdong’s medical sector and bridging gaps in regional healthcare. Health education initiatives and free clinics have reached four subdistricts and six towns, benefiting over 10,000 residents. Today, the campus serves as a key healthcare provider in Huadu District and plays a vital role in supporting the hospital’s new “multi-campus expansion” strategy.

Yang Jianlin, Party Secretary of SYSMH, expressed appreciation in his closing remarks for the strong support provided by the National Health Commission, provincial and local governments, health administrations, Sun Yat-sen University, partner hospitals, and social contributors including Girdear Fashion R&D Co. Ltd. toward the construction and development of the Huadu Campus. He also sincerely thanked all staff for their political awareness, team leadership, dedication, and resilience. The vigorous development of the Huadu Campus stands as a concrete practice of the hospital’s active efforts to advance the "Healthy China" initiative, expand and decentralize high-quality medical resources, and promote balanced regional healthcare distribution. It vividly reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to the Party and the nation’s development philosophy of "putting people’s health at the center." As the hospital embarks on the journey toward the third centenary goal, it will unite with determination and forge ahead with innovation, striving tirelessly to achieve the vision of transforming from "the earliest" into "the strongest."

Secretary Yang Jianlin delivered the closing speech.

Subsequently, the leaders and guests took part in the  tree-planting ceremony for the "Tree of Life" – a kapok tree. Known as the "Hero Tree of the South" and Guangzhou's city flower, the kapok represents resilience and devotion. The planting of the kapok tree in front of the Huadu Campus gate both serves as a symbol resonating with the hospital's commitment to "Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, and Endeavor" and embodies Dr. Sun Yat-sen's ethos of "The World for All". A series of events were also held on campus to mark its first anniversary, such as a Large-scale Free Health Clinic, a Campus Run, a Lawn Music Festival, and a Voluntary Blood Donation Drive.
