Chronic wound and stoma specialist clinic

Established in December 2001, the Chronic wound and stoma specialist clinic of Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University has four full-time staff members, including two with senior title, one with intermediate title and one with junior title, all of whom are certified as international Enterostomal Therapists (ET). There are 2 unit clinics per week in each of the South and North campus dedicated to providing specialized care for patients with chronic wounds, stomas and incontinence. At the same time, it also integrates clinical, teaching, scientific research, and rehabilitation guidance. In terms of academic appointments, a ostomy therapist Wu Xianrong serves as a member of the expert database of the Stoma, Wound, and Incontinence Nursing Professional Committee of the Chinese Nursing Society and the deputy chairman of the Stoma Professional Committee of the Guangdong Nursing Society.

The Chronic Wound and Stoma Clinic aims to improve patients' life quality and encourage outpatients to return to society by providing relevant specialized treatment and rehabilitation guidance. We has responsibility for:
(1) Stoma care: preoperative and postoperative stoma care for patients and management of stoma complications; continuing care for stoma patients after discharge from hospital, etc.
(2) Wound care: the treatment of various acute and chronic complex wounds. Mainly including traumatic wounds, postoperative hard-to-heal wounds, complex fistula wounds, pressure injuries, arteriovenous ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, drug extravasation-related ulcers, radioactive dermatitis and cancerous wounds, etc.
(3) Incontinence care: rehabilitation guidance and management of irritant dermatitis in patients with urinary and fecal incontinence.

Scientific Research Results

With regards to teaching, the Chronic Wound and Ostomy Clinic is currently the teaching base for the Enterostomal Therapist school of Sun Yat-sen University, the Sino-German (International) Wound Therapist School, and the wound stoma specialist nurse certification training course of the Stoma Committee of the Guangdong Nursing Association, etc. It has accepted trainees and trained hundreds of students from all over the country for many years, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia and many other places. In terms of scientific research, the stoma and wound care specialist has held over one project of the provincial nursing association and one project of the hospital, and published several papers in domestic core journals.
