At the coming of the new year, we would like to extend our sincere regards and good wishes, on behalf of the hospital leadership, to all staff members and friends from all walks of life.

We have witnessed an inspiring year of 2013, when a structural reform of medical and health system was taken place in China. A nationwide progress has been made in the filed of medical insurance, medical service, public health, drug supply and regulatory system. Under such a background, our hospital has managed to achieve sustainable development in different areas.

With increasing efficiency in handling medical cases, we have renewed the number of outpatient visits, medical operations, and inpatient receptions. In medical education, our hospital’s students, along with the students from other affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University, have won the Outstanding Award of National Medical College Student Competition of Clinical Skill; The research papers written by Dr. Sun Lijuan has also been named as Excellent Doctoral Research Paper in Guangdong Province.

Scientific and academic breakthroughs have also been made in our hospital. More records have been broken in the amount of research grants and in the number of research funds supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. For instance, Prof. Shen Huiyong and Prof. Lin Tianxin have both won the key research grants jointly supported by the Guangdong Provincial Government and the National Natural Science Foundation of China; Prof. Songerwei has been granted with Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation’s Science and Technology Innovation Award, which was the first in our hospital; Prof. Huang Jian has been elected as Chairman-elect of the Tenth Chinese Urological Association Committee; Prof. Song Erwei and Prof. Yan Tiebin have both been awarded as the Fifth National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers; Dr. Chen Xiangxin and Dr. Tang Yamei have been chosen as New Century Talents by the Ministry of Education.

We have also yielded great results in cultural construction, with quite a lot of moving examples: Security Captain Lu Zhihui risked his life to save the drowning, and was awarded with the 15th Guangdong Youth Wusi medal and the title of 2013 Guangdong Model; Dr. Li Jie from Department of Anesthesiology had worked in Ghana for medical support for two years, and was chosen as one of the Guangdong representatives to deliver job reports for the Medical Mission of Supporting Africa around China; Other medical professionals such as Zhao Yifan, Jiang Jiaxi and Guo Mingyan have also lived up to the spirit of helping the needed. Their deeds have been widely covered by the media and won extensive social recognitions.

In the year of 2013, our hospital was honored as the Most Popular Class A Hospital in Guangzhou City and National Model Hospital for Cultural Construction and Renovation. Our nursing team have also made it to the honor roll of National Advanced Women Community.

Thanks to the guidance of Sun Yat-Sen University, the trust from society, and the dedication of all staff members, we were able to bear rich fruit in the previous year. Hereby, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and utmost respect to all of you. With your support, we are more confident than ever to achieve more success in the new year.

The year of 2014 will be critical for us to further medical reform and development. It will also be a turning point for us to face new challenges in the course of development. We will put the South Campus Compounds into use, which will greatly improve the medical service and relief the tension of fighting over patient wards. Moreover, cutting-edge medical equipment will be brought in at the new compounds. It is expected that the new establishment will lay a solid foundation for our hospital’s sustainable development.

Dear colleagues, at the countdown of the new year, we call for your attention to the medical mission of our hospital. Let us stand fast to our posts and work together to improve the medical services for the public. It would be our great honor to dedicate our whole life to the medical cause of our homeland.
