Prof. XI Liyan from Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, and Prof. FENG Peiying from the Third Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-Sen University, were the only two experts from China who had been invited to deliver a speech for the event.

Prof. XI, professor of Dermatology, shared her take on “Penicillium marneffei infection in mainland China” at the congress, while Prof. FENG, professor of Dermatology and former PhD student of Prof. XI, presented the studies on “Detection and identification of opportunistic Exophiala species using Rolling Circle Amplification of ribosomal Internal Transcribed Spacers”. They also carried out productive exchanges with world experts on the diagnosis and treatment of fungal diseases in China.

IUMS is one of the 31 Scientific Unions of the International Council of Science (ICSU). Its major goal is to promote research and exchanges of scientific information for the welfare of humankind. The IUMS International Congress is held every three years and has become a world event that attracts top experts to share latest studies in the field. Prof. XI’s participation has allowed for more recognition on the development of fungal diseases treatment in China. Also, their trip has paved the way for future collaboration on microbiological studies between Sun Yat-Sen University and other world-renowned universities or medical institutes.
