President of Georgia Regents University Visits SYSH
On Jan. 29, 2015, Professor Ricardo Azziz, President of Georgia Regents University (GRU), and Professor Joe Z. Tsien, Co-Director of the Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute at GRU, visited Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital (SYSH) and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU).
Prof. Huiyong Shen, President of SYSH, met with the delegates, accompanied by Prof. Qiang Liu, Director of International Office at SYSH. Both parties introduced the visions of development and strong medical areas in their own institutes, which was followed by a mutual understanding on furthering talks on exploring collaboration in areas of cancer, cardiology, trauma, neurology, diabetes, immunology, sports injuries, and gynecologic diseases.

Professor Azziz also took the opportunity to hold an academic lecture on the topic of “Scientific Research for the Clinician”, which attracted more than 200 audiences including professors, young doctors and medical students at the hospital. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Dongzi Yang, Director of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The delegates also visited the Reproductive Medical Center at the hospital.

The Delegates paid a visit to the South Campus of SYSU on the same date, and met by Prof. Mengfeng Li, Vice President of SYSU, who was accompanied by Ms. Xiaoyan Wu, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU, and Prof. Dongzi Yang, Director of Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of SYSH. The two sides exchanged opinions on medical talent training, basic medical research, clinical research and translational medicine, and expressed hopes to deepen and strengthen cooperation and exchange in talent cultivation and scientific research in medical fields.
