SYSMH Expands Medical Excellence: Pediatrics & Dermatology Join 2024 National Clinical Key Specialties
The Guangdong Provincial Health Commission has recently released the list of institutions selected for the National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Projects in 2024. The Pediatric and Dermatology Departments of SYSMH have been granted the prestigious approval to join this project, bringing SYSMH's total number of national key specialties to 17.
SYSMH upholds the mission of enhancing medical services in its specialty departments and refining talent strategies within a framework of high-quality development. It strives to foster sustainable clinical excellence, better catering to the health needs of the community, and thereby contributing significantly to the achievement of the Healthy China initiative.
As the oldest provider of pediatric services in Guangdong, the Pediatric Department of SYSMH has offer comprehensive care to children since 1934. Being the the first to introduce master's and doctoral degree programs in the region, it has set up a top-tier medical center offering one-stop service, long-term follow-up care, and life cycle management. With 163 beds and 79 physicians, it committed to providing the utmost care possible which includes dedicated pediatric hematology, oncology and transplantation. The pediatric hematology has made significant advancements in the areas of umbilical cord blood transplantation and thalassemia care, while the neonatal department excels in employing advanced rescue technologies, achieving remarkable success rates.
The Dermatology Department of SYSMH is the first western medicine dermatology department in Guangdong since the hospital's inception in 1835. Officially established in 1953, it has achieved numerous "firsts" across various disciplines. Renowned in southern China for patient-centered care and medical excellence, particularly in complex cases, the department has authored two seminal monographs: "Lupus Erythematosus" and "Atlas of Direct Microscopy for Common Fungal Infections." It has also contributed extensively to the field through hundreds of scholarly publications in both Chinese and English. Additionally, the department has nurtured over 200 graduate students and nearly 600 advanced trainees, who now form the cornerstone of medical institutions nationwide.
