Official Launch of 'Happiness Space': An Innovative Staff Welfare Project
On September 18th, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital (SYSMH) officially launched "Happiness Space" during a ceremony held in the auditorium of its North Campus. Located on the eighth floor of the Lingnan Building, "Happiness Space" is a multifaceted staff retreat that incorporates cutting-edge technologies such as lightweight ALC panels, AI sound therapy, patented technology for natural agarwood fireless aromatherapy particles and immersive digital art. It also integrates VR technology with principles from psychology and traditional Chinese medicine, with the goal of enhancing employee well-being and fostering a harmonious workplace environment.

Song Erwei, the president of SYSMH, warmly welcomed the ceremony guests on behalf of the hospital and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the leaders, colleagues, and friends from various sectors who have consistently supported and cared for the hospital. He attributed the successful construction of "Happiness Space" to the support of the expert team led by Wu Shuoxian, Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as the hospital's Party committee's deployment and promotional efforts. By utilizing XR (Extended Reality)technology and integrating the "three views" concept, this initiative represents a novel approach to cultivating a "home" culture within public hospitals.

Zeng Weihan, the project planner, introduced the construction philosophy and journey of "Happiness Space" to the attendees. He noted that the "Happiness Space" serves as a public welfare and charity project integrated music, painting, psychology, and other fields, ultimately embodying the concept of "Three Scenes"—visual, auditory and olfactory landscape.

Wu Shuoxian, Member of Chinese Academy of Science from South China University of Technology, presented a report titled "Three Scenic Spaces". He elaborated on the concept of creating a diverse landscape through the integration of the three scenic spaces and emphasized that the creation of a landscape must consider both spatial and temporal dimensions to ensure that people are constantly surrounded by pleasure. Prof. Wu mentioned that the "Happy Space" project integrates human settlement environmental science and medicine, aiming to better fulfill people's actual needs for their living environment and health.

Zhang Liangyou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SYSMH, summarized that the unveiling of the "Happiness Space" marks a precedent in public hospitals nationwide. He encouraged staff members to actively explore and provide constructive feedback. Furthermore, he expressed his aspiration that the union would adhere to Xi Jinping Thought, establishing the "Happiness Space" as a signature initiative, introducing further staff welfare measures, and dedicating these endeavors to the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of New China and the centenary of Sun Yat-sen University's establishment.

After the meeting, the participants visited and experienced the "Happiness Space".
The "Happiness Space" also features "Forest Breathing" air purification and "Magic Mud" for negative ions, offering a nature-like, stress-reducing experience. It is a microcosm of the hospital's labor union's efforts to cultivate a 'family' culture, strengthen employee-centric practices, and elevate overall employee belonging, happiness, and well-being."
